Abstract

In this paper we summarize the foundation for a model-based approach to diagnosis of technical systems and discuss the importance of qualitative reasoning (QR) within this framework. In addition, we point out its potentiality for the development of theory formation and QR applicability for solve problems in the fields of engineering and ecology.
