SIGMA - an Integrated Environmental Management System
In: ECOS Journal, DMAE Publications, Porto Alegre, Brazil, 1996.
SIGMA describes a framework for an integrated environmental management system, employing the techniques of model-based systems for the basic steps of decision support: model-building, situation assessment, diagnosis and therapy planning. All tasks are accomplished in a dialog with the human expert, where the modular structure of the design enables the step-by-step implementation, evaluation and refinement of the system parts. By relying upon methods of diagnosis and model revision, the modules are able to share the elementary parts of the architecture and use analogous algorithms.
